Peter Franklin

Born in Dover and educated at Cambridge University, UK, he is Professor of Business English and Intercultural Business and Management Communication at Konstanz University of Applied Sciences, Germany. There he works on the BA course in Asian Studies and Management, the MA on International Management Asia and the MBA’s on General Management, Human Capital Management and Compliance and Corporate Governance.

He is also co-founder and director of the KIeM Institute for Intercultural Management, Values and Communication, Konstanz.

Peter Franklin’s research interests concern language, culture and communication in international business and management. For example, he conducted a government-funded investigation of Anglo-German management cooperation and, on behalf of the European Commission, he headed a 12-nation study into the development of intercultural competence in the context of foreign language education.

A noteworthy development project he was responsible for concerned the localisation and testing of the German version of the successful intercultural competence development tool, The International Profiler - for which Peter Franklin is a licensed consultant - in cooperation with its creators at WorldWork Ltd., London.

In the area of media development, Peter Franklin has a record of innovative concept and content development including CD-ROM self-study products and blended learning applications.

In addition to his university work, since 1989 Peter Franklin has advised, trained and addressed numerous corporate and institutional clients in the area of cross-cultural communication, co-operation and management. Specialisations in recent years have been post-merger integration, multicultural team-building and developing intercultural management competence.
